How to Create a Deposit in MrGG

The Deposit feature is part of the MrGG guest guide and allows you to request a deposit from guests through a connected payment processor. This helps protect your property in case of potential damages or rule violations.

With a deposit template, you can define the payment method, reservation channels, deposit terms, and the properties to which the deposit will apply.

Steps to Create a Deposit

1. Create a New Deposit Template

Open the Deposit section from the MrGG menu.

Click the Add button to create a new deposit template.

Enter the following information:

• Template Name – the name of the deposit template

• Description – a short description of the deposit terms

Then click Create Template to create the template.

2. Fill in Basic Information

After creating the template, you will see the Basic Information section.

Here you can:

• edit the template name

• add a description of the deposit

Once you make the changes, click Save.

3. Select a Payment Processor

In the Payment Processor section, choose the payment processor that will handle the deposit.

You can select:

• Use default from settings – uses the default settings from MrGG Settings

• Stripe – if Stripe is connected as a payment method

• another available processor configured in your account

4. Choose the Charge Type

In the Charge Type field, choose how the deposit will be processed.

The available options are:

• Capture – the deposit is charged immediately from the guest’s card

• Authorize – the funds are held (not charged) on the guest’s card and can be captured later

When using Authorize, you must manually capture the charge within a certain period (for example within 7 days), otherwise the hold will expire and the funds will be released.

After selecting the settings, click Save.

5. Select Reservation Channels

In the Reservation Channels section, choose which channels the deposit template will apply to.

You can select channels such as:

• Airbnb

• Booking.com

• Direct

• Expedia

• Vrbo

• Agoda

• other connected channels

Click Add Channel to add a new channel.

This allows you to apply the deposit only to specific reservation sources.

6. Add Deposit Terms

In the Deposit Terms section, enter the deposit terms and information that will be shown to guests.

You can include information such as:

• deposit amount

• when the deposit is charged

• refund conditions

• cases in which the deposit may be withheld

• the timeframe for returning the deposit

You can also add different language versions by using the Add language button.

After entering the information, click Save.

7. Assign Properties

In the Assigned Listings section, select which properties will use this deposit template.

You can:

• add all properties

• add selected properties only

• remove properties from the template

This allows you to use different deposit rules for different properties.

What to Include in the Deposit Terms

To avoid misunderstandings with guests, it is recommended to include:

• the exact deposit amount

• when the deposit is charged

• when and how it will be refunded

• situations where the deposit may be withheld

• an approximate refund timeframe

Clear deposit terms help guests understand the rules and create greater trust when making a reservation.

💡 Tip

If you manage multiple properties, create different deposit templates for different property types (for example apartments, houses, or luxury properties) to manage different deposit rules more easily.
